Remembering David Crosby

David Crosby played such a significant role in my life that it’s hard to remember what life was like before I met him. He was one of the most generous, intelligent and humorous people I’ve ever known. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. At the same time, I could talk to him about subjects like love, life, music, art…. He was a deep well of wisdom, a gentle soul, a gracious man, and I learned a lot from him.

David believed in me, and in my musical talent. Even when, and especially when I had lost that faith myself. He sponsored my work visas and wrote numerous recommendation letters to get me to the United States of America to play in his band. He took me along on an adventure for which I will forever be grateful.

He never forgot to remind the people that he loved, just how much he loved them.

The last time I saw David was several weeks ago. He came for a visit and we went to his beloved seashore. We sat in his car, watched the waves rolling by and just talked. One of those beautiful and tender moments I’ll never forget. We were planning to write some more songs together, but we never made it….

David is a huge part of my story and my journey and I feel humbled and honored to have been a small part of his.

I feel deep sadness and great emptiness for his passing, but I am so grateful for the time we had together.
My heart goes out to his wife, Jan who stood by him like a rock, their son Django, and everyone who loved him.

With love,
Mai Leisz
