Mai and David met for the first time in Oslo, Norway in 2015. Later that year Mai recorded the first song, Before Tomorrow Falls on Love, for David’s upcoming album Sky Trails (released in 2017).
In 2016 when Mai was visiting Los Angeles for the first time, David and Mai co-wrote some songs, recorded together, and David offered her the first tour.

They ended up working together until David announced his retirement from touring in 2022.
